Cytokine

Small signaling proteins secreted by immune and other cells that regulate inflammation, immune response, and intercellular communication.

Also known as: Cytokines Immune Mediators

Cytokines include a broad family of molecules — interleukins, tumor necrosis factors, interferons, and chemokines — each playing distinct roles in coordinating the immune response. In the context of peptide research, several compounds are studied for their ability to modulate cytokine levels, either dampening excessive inflammation or supporting immune activation.

BPC-157, for example, has been studied in animal models for its effects on inflammatory cytokine profiles, with preclinical data suggesting it may downregulate pro-inflammatory cytokines in gut and systemic injury models. Understanding cytokine modulation is important when evaluating any peptide with claimed anti-inflammatory or immune-supportive properties.
